In the early morning hours, a loud bang was heard by a Princes Risborough woman when an unknown object struck the roof of her barn.
Gina Timberlake, who lives in an HP27 9QP barn conversion reported hearing a loud bang around 5am.
The bang was immediately followed by the sound of a roof sliding and then the thud as it hit the floor.
A quick inspection revealed no evidence of a broken slate, even though I suspected it.
Gina, however, found the black stone on her gravel pathway on Sunday. Her roof was not damaged by this incident.
She speculated that it could have been a meteor.
Gina: “I was awakened by a loud bang and a sudden jump on my roof.
The bang was louder because I live in a converted barn.
The bang was then followed by something sliding off the slate roof, and then there was a sound when it struck the gravel pathway below.
I got up and looked for a flashlight, thinking that a slate may have exploded or slipped, and then fallen. The night was dark, and I could not see anything that might indicate a slate had fallen.
I went out to inspect and found that the roof was not damaged, but there was a lump of light weight rock lying on the ground.
Gina says she reported the incident at the Met Office.
She replied: “Meteors have much more metal and are heavier, so test it with a magnetic. Magnets don’t work on this rock.
It is a complete mystery to me how that lump, whatever it was, got to the roof.
