Fort Lauderdale firefighters are now telling their own story after the video that went viral was posted on TikTok. They rescued an elderly woman who had been stuck up 31 stories in her wheelchair.

Haleigh Rosa was the subject of our story on Tuesday. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to her situation when flooding shut down the elevator.

A firehouse crew’s typical routine involves getting dressed, including oxygen tanks, for a complete workout, which includes 20 flights of stairs, before eating dinner. The crew was just about to finish a training session when they got the high-rise rescue phone call.

Rosa is heard saying in the video “I want Johnny” back, referring to FLFR Firefighter John ‘Johnny’ Jones.

Chance Davis is a FLFR Firefighter who has been with the department for two years. He says: “I am sorry. I’m sure I stink. After the workout I began cooking dinner, then I got the call. So… I think that was the main reason why Johnny wanted to come back.”

Rosa holds on tightly to the video, and asks, “Am i choking you?” And a firefighter responds, “A little …”

“Initially, she asked: ‘Oh… why don’t you just carry me’? We laughed and said, “Actually it’s not so bad an idea.”

John “Johnny ” Jones, FLFR veteran for 23 years said: “She’s light, so she can go up the stairs without any problems.” Let’s finish this.”

The elevators in Rosa’s building were shut off by a ruptured pipe Sunday night. Firefighters carried Rosa up the 31st floor. Firefighters had to carry her up 31 floors from the apartment on her side to lifts working at the other end of the building. She uses a wheel chair.

FLFR Capt. Mike Bloomberg stated, “On that specific call, I only carried her bags.”

The team worked together to carry her as well as the wheelchair.

Davis tells the group, “I am going to make a video of you all. Do you mind?” Cap says, “No. I don’t.”

Back in 2012, I was not familiar with the TikTok.

It’s like the phone is going berserk. All these text messages and videos are sent to me. What’s up? I could not believe what was happening.”

Rosa’s TikTok about the rescue of her from a tall building was viewed over 8,000,000 times. The woman showed up to thank the firefighters at the station.

“I couldn’t have asked a better group to rescue the day”, she said.

She brought treats for firefighters, including Fireman Derek.

They are prepared to come back and help her if needed.

Davis stated, “It was the best job I’ve ever had.” “.

Rosa shared a meal with first responders.
